Solicitors Fees For Offences Heard At A Magistrates/Crown Court

Who will carry out the work?

  • Director assisted by a Solicitor
  • Solicitor/Director assisted by a paralegal

We are able to act under the following arrangements:

Hourly rate

We will tell you our hourly rate and provide an estimate of the amount of time which we consider will be required either to complete the legal work required or in respect of stages of the matter depending on complexity.

We are transparent in respect of our charges and will update you frequently on the costs of the matter.

Director From £350.00 per hour
Senior Solicitor / Law Society Panel Member From £280.00 per hour
Assistant Solicitor From £240.00 per hour

Fixed Fees

It may be that we will be able to offer a fixed fee to complete the legal work required and we will let you know the cost at the outset so that you have certainty in relation to the fees you will have to pay.

From the outset we will ensure that we explain:

  • How our fees will be calculated
  • Whether or not we can act for you under a fixed fee
  • How we have estimated our likely fees
  • How we have estimated the other costs that you may incur
  • What our hourly rates are
  • What we will do for you within our estimate

Upon your instruction:

  • A meeting with a designated Solicitor to provide instructions on the facts of the case
  • Considering initial disclosure, and any other evidence, and providing advice
  • Explaining the court procedure so that the client knows what to expect on the day of the hearing, and the sentencing options available to the court
  • Conducting any further preparatory work, obtaining further instructions from you if necessary, and answering any follow up queries
  • Attending court on the day and meeting with you the client before going before the court (although we cannot provide a timescale of when the hearing will take place, as this depends on the court listing for that day)
  • Discussing the outcome with you the client. If advice is required on appeal, this will carry an additional cost

The fee does not include:

  • Instruction of any expert witnesses
  • Instruction of Counsel
  • Taking statements from any witnesses
  • Any travel time and disbursements in attending court (eg travel, accommodation)
  • Advice and / or assistance in relation to any potential appeal

Our expert legal team covers all Courts across England, and therefore travel time may be included at an hourly rate or negotiated inclusively (subject to court location). This decision will be communicated with the client at presentation of the case circumstances.

VAT & disbursements

Our fees and some disbursements are subject to VAT at 20%.

Disbursements are charges payable in addition to our fees, normally to a third party. They can include fees payable to the Court , Barristers and other experts such as medical experts who may be required to provide evidence in your case.

The amount charged for the disbursements depends upon a number of variables examples include expert reports, expert attendance at Court, Barrister’s costs. All of these additional costs where applicable will be discussed with you in advance of instruction.
