R v Divan - Multi Million Pound DVD Counterfeit Operation

Mr Divan was part of a gang that had developed a sophisticated distribution operation, couriering the burned DVDs across London to 15 “shops” in residential properties in Deptford and Lewisham. Large numbers of sellers would then select titles to sell across London and the South East. Confiscation was £14.7 million pounds for this operation and reduced to £2.1 million.

R v Khan - Exportation of Plant Machinery

Mr Khan was acquitted for his part in the £2.5 million pound case at Bristol Crown court of the exportation of plant machinery to foreign countries.

R v Others - London Riots 2011

Noble Solicitors represented 21 clients in the August 2011 riots across London in a range of offences from looting, theft, affray and rioting.

Allegation of murder, commonly referred to by the National Press as “Jigsaw Murder”. Alleged that the defendants stabbed and then cut up into pieces the deceased and distributed around the south east. Several macabre allegations of stripping the skull and sexual inferences. Our defendant was a young prostitute. Co-Def sentenced to 36 years (proved links to Adams Family and previous for disposing of bodies), our defendant 4.5years for perverting the course of justice.

Triple allegation of murder and attempt murder. The defendant was an illegal immigrant who after numerous medical reports and arguments was found to be suffering from a severe illness, admitted manslaughter. The attack was unprovoked in which he ran amok with a machete almost decapitating three men within a few minutes. Enquiries with the family re mental health and witch doctor in Africa.

Allegation of smuggling illegal immigrants into a life of slavery within the UK. Most expensive case Wales has ever heard. Money laundering in excess of £6,000,000 enquiries required over three weeks in China, defendant linked to “Snake Heads”. Trial collapsed after several weeks.

Termed by National Press as “Cash for Crash”. Originally 62 defendants, we dealt with one of the three main conspirators. Complex case using a variety of types of evidence 20,000 pages of evidence, POCA order in excess of £1.4 million.

Organised Vietnamese crime syndicate operating numerous cannabis factories in London. Original POCA allegation of almost £1 million, following lengthy negotiations benefit agreed at £6,000 with £1 to pay.

Prolific wholesaler of Cocaine in “Top 100 National Criminal List” the case involved bugging of his house and vehicles forcing guilty plea.

R Housing Association v D

Possession proceedings brought by the Claimant for non-occupation and significant rent arrears (over £5000). The matter proceeded to trial with the Claimant seeking an outright order.

Following a 1 day trial, the Judge was persuaded to suspend a possession order with arrears to be repaid at a rate of £10 per week.

W Council v P

This case involved a tenant with mental health difficulties. There was a long history of allegations of anti-social behaviour against the tenant, committed at the property. There were also significant rent arrears. The matter proceeded to trial with the Claimant seeking an outright possession order.

Following a 1 day trial, the County Court was persuaded not to make an outright order. The tenant was required to repay the arrears at the rate of £3.75 per week and ensure that he complied with the terms of his tenancy.

N Housing Association v C

The tenant’s partner had been convicted of drugs-related offences at the property.

The Claimant sought an outright order.

Following a 2 day trial, the Judge was persuaded to suspend a possession order on terms that the tenant do not allow illegal drugs into the property.

D Council v C

This case related to a Possession order that had been made following the tenant’s criminal conviction. We were instructed once the tenant had received a date for the bailiffs to attend (a warrant of possession).

We assisted the tenant in successfully setting aside the warrant of possession. The Council appealed against this order.

The appeal was allowed in part by the Circuit Judge, who remitted the case back to a different District Judge to be considered afresh. At the next hearing, the warrant was once more set aside, which was a successful outcome for the tenant.

The case of a transgender sex offender who has been jailed in what is thought to be a legal first after appearing in court as a man and as a woman on the same occasion. Chantelle Stocks of Noble Solicitors was Junior Counsel.

Client was accused of numerous charges of rape, false imprisonment and kidnap. The case generated public interest as it became a historical first when the Magistrate had to attend upon the client at Belmarsh prison after they refused to leave their cell to allow the case to be sent before the Crown Court. The subsequent Crown Court case and defence preparation gained a great deal of national press and the client found guilty and serving consecutive life sentences. Client was accused of producing a fake lottery ticket for an unclaimed ticket to the value of £2.5 million. The client claimed they had found the winning ticket under a seat in their van in 2009 just before the deadline to claim the win passed. Client was subsequently found guilty of this charge. This case involved a multi-handed conspiracy to defraud and money laundering charges whereby clients were alleged to have fraudulently sold carbon credits causing investors to sustain multi-million pound losses over a number of years behind the façade of a respectable company. These companies engaged with hundreds of investors via a boiler room, cold calling setting. The Defendant’s were linked to a high number of other alternative investment frauds, who spent millions on carbon credits which are alleged by the Crown to be worthless. The investigation was initiated by the City of London Police Constabulary, as part of an initiative to clamp down on the spread of similar types of frauds across this City. Noble Solicitors represented the Director of one of the companies. Noble Solicitors led by Paul Millan prepared client defence.

This matter concerned a multi-handed conspiracy to reduce the tax liability of several companies by evading tax and paying employees and directors salaries through the back door by issuing dummy invoices through a third company. Charges were brought following a prolonged and largescale investigation spearheaded by HMRC. HMRC carried out a routine check on three companies and it was noted that one company who had been adding VAT onto invoices supplied to another in the case who were not actually registered for VAT. It is anticipated that the amount of tax that had been evaded and NI contributions amounted to hundreds of thousands of pounds over a period of years. Well publicised case of murder in which one sibling brutally murdered another over a matrimonial affair. The defendant had been having an affair with her brother in law and lured the victim back to the family home on the pretence the victims children were not well. The defendant then proceeded to stab the victim multiple times, quite brutally in places and then claimed her sister had been of a burglary that went wrong.
