Legal Aid In Mental Health Law

In Mental Health Law those detained under the Mental Health Act are entitled to free Legal Advice, Assistance and Representation in respect of all Mental Health Tribunal work, this is non-means tested and is available to all individuals.

Legal Aid In Family Law & Childcare

Following the introduction of the LASPO act 2012 the parameters for the ability to obtain Civil Legal Aid changed and became more restrictive.

You could be eligible for legal aid when;

Social services involvement/Care proceedings - For any other Child Care Law case, means and merits tested legal aid is likely to be available. In the event that the Local Authority/ Social services are applying for a care order, supervision order or emergency protection order in relation to your children, legal aid is always issued - it may also be available to extended family members but will depend on whether they qualify by way of their means and the strength of their case.

Domestic Violence where you or your family are at risk of abuse or serious harm, for example domestic violence or forced marriage.
