Release on Temporary License

They may be eligible for release on temporary license which includes; compassionate license, facility license and resettlement licence. If they are a Category C or D prisoner then they may be eligible for release on a facility licence which will allow them to do work experience and educational courses outside the prison providing they have completed one-quarter of their sentence including time on remand.

For prisoners serving 12 months but less than 4 years, they can apply for a resettlement license after one-third of their sentence. This can be up to 4 months before their automatic conditional release date and is therefore worth consulting their solicitor about. Prisoners serving 4 years and over are also eligible for a resettlement license but it is subject to a more complicated criteria.
